Territorial bank robbery O'ahu's fifth in two weeks

Advertiser Staff

The FBI and Honolulu police are investigating a bank robbery at the McCully branch of Territorial Savings and Loan yesterday afternoon — the fifth bank robbery on O'ahu in the past two weeks.

The man at left is a suspect in four O'ahu bank robberies. The man at right robbed the McCully branch of Territorial Savings and Loan yesterday.

But officials are not certain that yesterday's robbery was connected to the other four.

The robber yesterday had a black handgun and demanded cash from the teller verbally, rather than presenting a note. The man took an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen on foot headed down McCully Street toward the ocean.

Officials are confident that the other four robberies, three at American Savings Bank branches and one at Hawai'i National Bank, were committed by the same individual, described as a Caucasian male in his 30s with a medium build and blond hair.

Witnesses described yesterday's robber as a clean-shaven Caucasian male in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, slim build with blond hair.

He was wearing a blue baseball cap with a logo, long-sleeved blue T-shirt, light-colored shorts and sneakers.
