Alfred H. Giugni, Immigration official, dead at 74

Alfred Hookano Giugni, a retired Immigration and Naturalization Services district director, died July 21 in El Paso, Texas. He was 74.

Giugni was born in Pearl City and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He served in the Army and later graduated from the University of Portland, where he was an outstanding football player.

Giugni's federal career spanned four decades and included assignments with the Department of Justice in California, Washington, D.C., Dallas and El Paso.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed performing music.

Giugni is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Kathryn Newell and Merry Henley; five grandchildren; and brother, Henry.

Services were held on the Mainland.
