Aloha Bowl might move from S.F. to Anaheim

Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO — Plans to play a college football bowl game in San Francisco during the holiday season are in jeopardy and the game could be moved to Anaheim, Calif.

Organizers of the bowl game told Pac-10 athletic directors meeting in Los Angeles that the former Aloha Bowl, initially set for Dec. 30 at Pacific Bell Park, would be played instead at Edison International Field.

Pac-10 spokesman Jim Muldoon said a key sticking point was the bowl's contract with ABC-TV, which calls for a bowl game to be played on Christmas Day — as was the case when the game was played in Hawai'i.

Muldoon said bowl officials, Fritz Rohlfing and Terry Daw, told the conference the Giants would not host a game on Christmas Day.

"We are negotiating with the Pac-10 Conference to bring the bowl game to Anaheim," Rohlfing, chief executive director of Aloha Sports Inc., said in a statement issued yesterday in Honolulu.
