Aloha Bowl might move from S.F. to Anaheim

SAN FRANCISCO Plans to play a college football bowl game in San Francisco during the holiday season are in jeopardy and the game could be moved to Anaheim, Calif.
Organizers of the bowl game told Pac-10 athletic directors meeting in Los Angeles that the former Aloha Bowl, initially set for Dec. 30 at Pacific Bell Park, would be played instead at Edison International Field.
Pac-10 spokesman Jim Muldoon said a key sticking point was the bowl's contract with ABC-TV, which calls for a bowl game to be played on Christmas Day as was the case when the game was played in Hawai'i.
Muldoon said bowl officials, Fritz Rohlfing and Terry Daw, told the conference the Giants would not host a game on Christmas Day.
"We are negotiating with the Pac-10 Conference to bring the bowl game to Anaheim," Rohlfing, chief executive director of Aloha Sports Inc., said in a statement issued yesterday in Honolulu.
