Advice set in concrete: Avoid Punchbowl St.

By Kapono Dowson
Advertiser Staff Writer

Today's best traffic tip: Avoid Punchbowl Street.

It's already slow going maneuvering through orange cones, steel plates and traffic cops. But, remember, more construction begins today.

The city is closing the right makai-bound lanes of Punchbowl between Miller and Beretania streets for concrete work from 8:30 this morning to 3:30 p.m. Monday.

One mauka lane will be used for contra-flow through the weekend, allowing three days for the concrete to cure.

If you end up on Punchbowl, expect only one lane open in either direction.

The only relief will come during rush hour from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. today and Monday from 5:30 to 8:30 a.m., when two lanes will open in the direction of the heaviest traffic.
