Tube Notes

• ISLAND INTEREST: "Keiki Hula Competition," 6:30 p.m., ABC. More than 25 halau compete at the 26th annual event, which pays tribute to Queen Lili'uokalani, played host by Paula Akana, Kimo Keawe and Ka'iulani de Silva.

• LOCAL INTEREST: "Hawaiian Quilting," noon, PBS. Played host by Elizabeth Akana, this program looks at quilter Luika Kamaka and the fine points of creating a full-sized Hawaiian quilt.

• TONIGHT'S-MIGHT-SEE (network TV): "Caddyshack" (1980), 7:56 p.m., NBC; preceded by "The Story Behind Caddyshack," 7 p.m. Michael O'Keefe stars as a college-kid caddy, thrust into the high-tone world of a country club. What people remember, however, are the supporting roles. There's Rodney Dangerfield as a rich and vulgar golfer. Most of all, there's Bill Murray as a groundskeeper, with an escalating warfare against a groundhog. The result is wonderful in parts, so-so in total. Over the years, it keeps getting remembered fondly; now NBC airs a documentary, followed by the movie.

"The Murder of Mary Phagan" (1988), 6-10 p.m., Lifetime. The late Jack Lemmon's brilliant performance — as a governor teetering between conscience and public demand — is just one piece of this superb miniseries. It's based on the true story of the murder of a 14-year-old Georgia girl in 1913 and the rush to convict a Jewish factory manager.

"Biography," 5 p.m., A&E. Here's a profile of Raquel Welch, who went from movie bombshell to Broadway star.

"The District," 8 and 9 p.m., CBS. In the first rerun, the police chief tries to find the secret behind the murder of a congressman's friend; in the second, he tries to attack crime on the city's worst block.

"Gone With the Wind" (1939), 2 p.m., Turner Classic Movies. Here's another chance to see or tape one of the great Hollywood epics.
