NORTH SHORE

Body of missing fisherman found

Divers with the Honolulu Fire Department recovered the body of a missing fisherman yesterday off Shark's Cove.

The 75-year-old Honolulu man went fishing at 6 a.m. Thursday, and his wife called Honolulu police and fire officials when he did not return home that afternoon.

A helicopter and rescue boat, along with divers searched for the man yesterday.

At about 1:30 yesterday afternoon, the divers recovered the man's swimming shorts on the ocean floor and recovered his body under a reef about 75 yards offshore in water 30 feet deep.

Fire and police officials say they do not suspect foul play.

Robbers hit alleged gambling room

For the second time in less than a month, a suspected gambling den in the Kaka'ako area has been robbed by a gang of armed men.

Five men with guns raided an alleged gambling room at 916 Queen St. early yesterday, robbing about 30 patrons and ransacking an office, police said.

An unknown amount of money was taken, and no injuries were reported, police said.

Early on July 13, also a Friday, a gang of robbers forced their way into a suspected gambling den at 350 Ward Ave., taking an undetermined amount of cash from 20 patrons, police said.

Not guilty plea in peeping Tom case

Veteran police officer Craig Clissold pleaded not guilty in District Court yesterday to charges of invasion of privacy stemming from an alleged peeping Tom incident this week at a Hawai'i Kai home.

Clissold was not present before District Judge Gerald Kibe when the plea was entered by his attorney, Richard Hoke. Clissold waved his right to be present and for the reading of charges.

Kibe set Aug. 13 for Clissold to enter his decision for trial to be set by jury. Kibe said Clissold would need to be in court that day for a ruling on a request for a no- contact order by prosecuting attorney Lowell Scot Hu. Such an order would require Clissold to stay away from the resident of the Hawai'i Kai home.

Family homeless after Kailua blaze

A Kailua house fire last night has left a family of four temporarily homeless.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a fire at 1422 Nanaloko Place, in the Enchanted Lake area, at 7:16 p.m.

Five engines and 35 firefighters battled the blaze, which set off a small series of explosions. Fire Department spokesman Capt. Richard Soo said the two-story, four-bedroom house was all but destroyed by 7:25 p.m.

A 42-year-old man, along with his 9- and 12-year-old children, escaped the fire. The man's wife was on a business trip, said Soo, and was due back in Honolulu last night.
