Kidnapping suspect arrested on Hawai'i

FBI agents, assisted by Big Island police, yesterday arrested a man wanted in California for parental kidnapping and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Edgardo Rene Meneses was taken into custody at 3:10 p.m. at Ho'okena Beach Park in South Kona, Hawai'i, and will be extradited to Los Angeles County.

His 4-month-old son was safely recovered and placed under the care of child welfare officials until the baby can be reunited with his mother.


KAUA'I

Man dies in chain saw accident

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — A Kapa'a man died yesterday from injuries received while clearing guava trees with a chain saw.

Herman Wiser, 49, of Kapa'a, was working on a slope in the Waipouli Road area of Wailua Homesteads when he was cut on the neck by the chain saw, said police Lt. Alvin Seto.
