Get cozy with animals at sleepover

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

Museum- and zoo-loving keiki can get the best of both worlds at the Bishop Museum's "Zooper Snooze," which begins 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at the museum and ends 9:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Honolulu Zoo.

The sleepover, aimed at children 5 to 10 years old, kicks off with hands-on demonstrations, crafts, shows, and exploration time in the Robot Zoo exhibit, which features oversized robots of a rhinoceros, giant squid, giraffe, grasshopper and more. The next morning, visitors go to the zoo to eat breakfast, meet a zookeeper and see the animals.

Children must attend the event with an adult; organizers ask that each adult accompany no more than two children. The cost is $45 per family member; $40 for Bishop Museum Association and Honolulu Zoological Society members. An evening snack and light breakfast are included with the fee. Participants are asked to bring sleeping gear, warm clothes, a toothbrush and flashlight. For information, call 848-4168.
