Shooter seriously injures man at Ala Moana Hotel

By Brandon Masuoka

A gunman opened fire inside the Ala Moana Hotel today, wounding a 28-year-old Pearl City man, police said.

The injured man was taken to the Queen's Medical Center where he was in serious condition this morning with a gunshot wound to his upper chest, police said.

Police were called to the hotel at 410 Atkinson Drive at about 3 a.m. after the injured man wandered into the parking lot and told an attendant that someone had shot him.

Police said the injured man told them he had gone to the hotel for a party, knocked on a hotel room door and was surprised when the gunman reached out from behind the door and shot him in the chest, police said.

The injured man told police he did not get a good look at the gunman and only saw the gunman's hand and gun.

During the investigation, police reviewed security videotapes from the hotel and searched the hotel room for evidence.

Police later found the registered guest of the hotel room and questioned the 36-year-old man at his Pearl City home. Police said the man is not a suspect in the shooting.

Police said they are still looking for a motive in the shooting and have classified the case as second-degree attempted murder.
