Another bank robbery believed committed by fugitive

Advertiser Staff

The Hawaii National Bank on Lagoon Drive was robbed today by a man suspected in at least three previous bank robberies.

Police were looking this afternoon for Edward Leiffer, 38. Authorities believe he robbed the Kapahulu City Bank on July 10, the Kaneohe-Kahuhipa branch of American Savings Bank on July 28 and the Pearl City American Savings Bank on July 30.

One warrant for his arrest was issued Friday in the three robberies and another was issued earlier for parole violation.

Police said the suspect in the latest robbery handed a teller a note at about 11:24 a.m. and demanded money, which he placed in a plastic grocery bag.

Leiffer is described as a Caucasian male, 180 pounds, 5 feet 11 inches, with wavy, neck-length brown hair. He has a goatee, wears a red baseball cap, a black T-shirt with orange writing on the back and sunglasses.

Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information leading to Leiffer's arrest. Those with information can call 955-8300 or * crime on a cell phone.
