• Outrigger Enterprises' ambitious $300 million redevelopment plan to demolish several Lewers Street properties for construction of an open-air, old-Waikiki-themed entertainment complex will be the topic of an upcoming luncheon meeting of the INSTITUTE OF REAL ESTATE MANAGEMENT. The meeting of the group's Hawai'i chapter is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. registration, Aug. 15, at Ala Moana Hotel. Mel Kaneshige, senior vice president and chief executive officer of Outrigger Enterprises, will discuss the project, which includes a new 27-story, 890-room hotel and plans for more open space. • Last weekend's concert by Vina Morales, award-winning actress, dancer and singer from the Philippines, kicked off three months of announced bookings at the Hawai'i Convention Center, which should see more than 55,000 attendees through October. Attracting some of the largest number of prospective attendees will be the Unlimited Merchants Inc. trade show next month, with 20,000 expected, and a two-day Wedding Expo beginning Oct. 26, with an expected 8,000 in attendance. Local events include the Hawai'i Annual Tourism Conference Sept. 17 to 20 and the Governor's Conference on Volunteerism, Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. Also planned are events by computer networking equipment manufacturer, Cisco Systems (Japan and Asia Pacific Region), Job Quest and SunMicro Systems. Scheduled Oct. 26 to 30 is the meeting of the Independent Insurance Agents of America, and the annual meeting Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 of Outrigger Hotels and Resorts. Information: 943-3500.
