Jazz Quartet at Studio 6

The Honolulu Jazz Quartet will make its debut with a performance from 8 to 10 p.m. Aug. 14 at Studio 6 at the Musicians Union, 949 Kapi'olani Blvd.

The group features John Kolivas on bass, Richie Pratt on drums, Dan Del Negro on piano and Tim Tsukiyama on saxophone. Besides traditional jazz, the combo will play originals composed by band members.

Much music at Hawai'i fest

Along with an array of food, arts, crafts and gift items, the Sixth Annual Made in Hawaii Festival, set for Aug. 17 through 19 at Blaisdell Center, will feature a mixed bag of music.

The performance schedule on the Main Stage, sponsored by The Honolulu Advertiser:

Friday

  • Noon — Jerry Santos.
  • 1 p.m. — Ka'au Crater Boys.
  • 3 p.m. — Genoa Keawe.
  • 5 p.m. — Robi Kahakalau.
  • 7 p.m. — Weldon Kekauoha with The Mana'o Company.

Saturday

  • 11 a.m. — Ku'uipo Kumukahi.
  • 1 p.m. — O'Brian Eselu.
  • 3 p.m. — Amy Hana'iali'i Gilliom.
  • 5 p.m. — Frank DeLima.
  • 7 p.m. — Maunalua.

Sunday

  • 11 a.m. — Jay Larrin.
  • 1 p.m. — Sean Na'auao.
  • 3 p.m. — Ten Feet.

First Hawaiian Bank is the title sponsor of the festival, slated in Blaisdell Arena and Exhibition Hall. Hours are from noon to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets: $2 for adults, free for children 6 and under.

Choral Society needs singers

The Oahu Choral Society is searching for singers for its forthcoming new season.

Rehearsals are held at 7 p.m. every Monday, beginning Aug. 13, at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa music department, room 36. Auditions will be held periodically and will be based on the music being prepared for the new season.

Timothy Carney, music director of the chorus, said the group's schedule will include classical and poplar Christmas selections, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, choral selections from Puccini's "Turandot" and a complete performance of Mendelssohn's "Elijah."
