The Left Lane
More Curious George

Curious George's inquisitiveness never gets old. He turns 60 this year, and two new books starring the little monkey will be in bookstores to mark the occasion: "Curious George Goes to a Costume Party" and "Curious George in the Big City" (Houghton Mifflin, $3.95 each). The newest titles are illustrated by Martha Weston in the style of H.A. Rey (1898-1977) and his wife Margret Rey (1906-1996), who introduced George to the world in 1941. An anniversary edition of "The Complete Adventures of Curious George" (Houghton Mifflin, $30) also is being released.

Grief conference

Deputy U.S. Surgeon General Kenneth Moritsugu and the Rev. Mitsuo Aoki will be guest speakers at a "Crisis, Grief and Healing Conference" planned for Friday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village to celebrate the gift of life given by organ donors.

While the conference will offer information on the grief process, it will also offer those who are grieving the loss of loved ones a way to remember them by contributing a quilt square to the Donor Family Quilt. Both a candlelight ceremony and quilt-pinning ceremony will be part of the conference.

Contact Denice Keli'ikoa at 589-5933 for information on how to make a quilt square. Conference registration is $45 (fees are waived for donor families). Call Sandra Pohl at 585-0430, or toll-free from the Neighbor Islands at 1-800-488-2277, ext. 233.

Auntie on the move

Auntie Genoa Keawe has been a Thursday night staple at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort (formerly, the Hawaiian Regent) for years. But because the Lobby Bar, her regular hangout, closes shortly for renovations, Auntie Genoa will move her Thursday performances (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.) to the Ocean Terrace on the third floor of the hotel's Kalakaua Tower. Thus, it's time to party — last night at the Lobby Bar is tomorrow, and the first night at the new place is Aug. 16.

Information: 922-4646.
