Advertiser Staff

Former state House and Senate minority leader Mike Liu has been confirmed as deputy assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Rep. Barbara Marumoto (R-17th) said Liu is now the highest ranking person from Hawai'i in the Bush administration.

"Having worked alongside Mike for several years, I know he is very competent and hardworking," she said. "I'm happy to see a local boy make good."

Marumoto said Liu will have jurisdiction over public and Indian housing. Hawaiian Home Lands issues fall within Indian Housing.
