Lyon Arboretum gets new director

Alan H. Teramura, former senior vice president for research and dean of the graduate division of the University of Hawai'i, has been appointed director of the University's Harold A. Lyon Arboretum.

Teramura, whose doctorate from Duke University is in physiological ecology, has done extensive research in the field of environmental stress physiology, global climate change and biodiversity.

He took office Aug. 1, ending the search for a new director that followed the death of Dr. Charles H. Lamoureux last year.

Teramura was born in Los Angeles. He did his undergraduate work in biological science at California State University, Fullerton, and received his master's degree in ecology there. He also has a master's degree in biochemistry from the University of Dundee, Scotland.
