Achievers

Timothy Duarte of Lihu'e, a student at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, received a $750 Jeffrey Kalima Loo Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established by the Kaua'i Marriott Resort & Beach Club to assist Kaua'i students in the pursuit of careers in tourism or human resources.

Hilary Son of Honolulu, a student at Lutheran High School, was awarded a full-tuition, room and board scholarship to attend the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation 2001 Summer Seminar Program in June at the Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. The seminar is a national program designed as an art institute offering an intensive visual art studio program for high school juniors.

The Hawaii Association of Broadcasters Inc. awarded a total of $42,000 to 24 college students interested in pursuing a career in the broadcast industry in Hawai'i. They are: Carrie Brown, Northwestern University; Daniel Cup Choy, Loyola Marymount University; Dava Della, Hawai'i Pacific University; Sara Keala Eckhart, University of Nevada-Reno; Kelsey Tam Ho, University of Hawai'i-Manoa; Tracy Ignacio, Leeward Community College; Errin Kealoha, UH-Manoa; Erin Kinoshita, Arizona State University; Sheena Kipu, Menlo College; Kimberly Kobayashi, Chapman University; Jaime Kuntemeyer, UH-Hilo; Kasia Makahanaloa, Marymount College; Rosalinda Masler, Mesa State; Ryan Ng, University of Southern California; Daniel Nunes, UH-Manoa; Jeannie Pinpin, Chaminade University; Paulette Reyes, UH-Manoa; Peony Sojot, UH-Manoa; Dominique Stafford, UN-Las Vegas; Sheri Takara, HPU; Ann Tsukano, University of Tampa; David Wei, Chaminade University; Esther You, American University; Mark Younge, HPU.

The University of Hawai'i awarded Regents Scholarships to the following incoming UH freshmen: Justin Akagi, Riley Ceria, Eric Chow, Kapalai'ula de Silva, Liana Garcia, Tracy Lyn Higa, Lianne Ho, Cheri Kishimoto, Scott Lee, Gavin McCall, Blaine Murakami, Iris Nagamine, Harmony Nakamura, Derick Okihara, Jason Pang, Bradlee Sako, Derika Tamura, Lisa Tanikawa, Carleton Wong and Sophia Wong.

The University of Hawai'i awarded Presidential Scholarships to the following UH juniors: Daniel Akiyama, Amber Caracol, Reuben Chong, Dariann Choy, Michelle Fong, Vincent Lee, Grace Liu, Kamila Ma'i'i, Nicola Nicolaisen and Amy Platt.

UH Regents Scholars will receive a full tuition waiver for four years of undergraduate study and $4,000 a year for four years . The Presidential Scholars will receive a full tuition waiver for two years of undergraduate study and $4,000 a year for two years. In addition, all scholars will receive a one-time travel grant of $2,000.
