• Star Markets has named JOHN T. FUJIEKI Jr. chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president, succeeding his late father, John Fujieki Sr. Fujieki Jr. most recently was president and chief operating officer for the grocery retail company. His father died last month.

• STEVEN E. MARKHOFF, who led the integration of Hawaiian Airlines' B717-200 aircraft into its fleet after joining the company in 1999 — and more recently, the acquisition, financing and operational integration of the airline's Boeing 767-300ER aircraft — has been promoted to vice president of acquisitions. As such, he will continue oversight of aircraft acquisitions and integration activities, including the company's new "extended two engine operations" certification.

• Also promoted to vice president, for finance; and treasurer, is KAREN A. BERRY, most recently managing director-finance. Before joining the company, she had worked as a manager of treasury and finance for Jet America Airlines, and financial analyst for Coca-Cola and Mattel Toy Co.

• HARVEY YASUDA has been named manager of the newly renovated, 2,500-square-foot, VERIZON WIRELESS store located in downtown's Pacific Guardian Tower (formerly Grosvenor Center). Yasuda has held sales and management position with Nordstrom, Liberty House and the Nine West Group, and has been with Verizon since 1999.

• SEAN HUH, most recently a leading communication specialist for AT&T Wireless, has been named to manage a newly remodeled telecommunications retail location, the company's Kahului location.

• ROGER DRUE, president and chief executive officer of Kapi'olani Health has been elected chairman of 43-member Hawai'i Business Roundtable organization of top leaders in Hawai'i's business community. He succeeds Robin Campaniano, president and chief executive officer of AIG Hawai'i Insurance Co. The group has named three other new members: MICHAEL HARTLEY, chair and chief executive officer of Cheap Tickets Inc.; PETER SCHALL, senior vice president and regional manager, Hilton Hawaiian Village, and KEITH VIEIRA, senior vice president and director of operations, Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

• CLAIRE R. ANIYA, who, as senior tax manager at KPMG LLP, participated in the 2000 financial audit of the Kamehameha Schools, has been named tax director of the school. In the position, Aniya will review and advise school management on tax matters, including assessing, qualifying and managing tax risks and impact on key strategic and business decisions. She will also oversee the school's tax division. Aniya is a certified public accountant, and 13-year veteran of primarily tax-exempt and real estate organizations.

• PATRICK SAITO, whose contributions have been recognized in multiple Hale 'Aina Awards, and mentioned in Gourmet Magazine, Bon Appetit, Esquire, Wine Spectator and Coastal Living, has been named chef de cuisine at the Hawai'i Calls Restaurant at the Outrigger Waikoloa Beach hotel on the Big Island. He will be responsible for menu development and overall meal preparations for the restaurant's evening dining service. Saito was previously at the Big Island's Mauna Lani Bay and Bungalow's Canoe House Restaurant, and has studied under Hawai'i chef Roy Yamaguchi at his Roy's Restaurants on O'ahu, and at The Wisteria.

• Hilo native CRYSTAL POE-CABATBAT has returned to the Big Island as spa director of the new Mauna Lani Resort Spa on the Kohala Coast. Poe-Cabatbat joins Mauna Lani from the Hyatt Regency Maui, where she was most recently spa director of the Spa Moana, including during pre-opening preparations.

• CINDY-ANN MANAOIS has been promoted by Bank of Hawai'i to manager of the bank's Moloka'i branch and its four employees. She replaces Lance "Kip" Dunbar, who retired. Manaois joined Bank of Hawai'i as Ke'eaumoku branch bookkeeper in 1981, transferring to the Kaunakakai branch two years later as a teller.

• MARC RESORTS HAWAI'I, which manages 20 properties statewide, has announced appointments to its management team:

• WAYNE TOMITA, has been named controller, overseeing the company's fiscal planning and management, as well as all financial and accounting services. The certified public accountant is former controller at Island Title Corp.

• SAMUEL MIN has been named director of sales. He was previously senior sales manager for Parc Shore Hotel.

• JERRY JAMESSON has been named general manager of the Embassy Vacation Resort at Ka'anapali Beach, Maui, a property managed by Marc Resorts Hawai'i. He is previously general manager of The Shores of Waikaloa.

• JONATHAN KIM, former property manager at Hawai'i Kai Towne Center and Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, has signed on as general manager of Windward Mall, as the Kane'ohe retail center moves to fill a remaining 19 percent vacancy rate with a blend of complementing mixes of national and local merchants. Kim holds designations as certified shopping center manager and certified property manager, and has worked as property manager for Loyalty Enterprises, Aaron M. Chaney Inc., Dillingham Land Corp., and the Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate and Pauahi Management Co.

• Thirty-year Occidental Underwriters of Hawai'i veteran RICHARD M.Y. FONG has been elected the corporation's vice president.
