Honolulu District Judge Tenney Tongg ruled that there was enough evidence to support attempted second-degree murder charges against Robert Nunies, 18, and Clint Soliven, 20, both of Wahiawa.

According to testimony, on the evening of Aug. 4, the two men were traveling on Kamehameha Highway when shots were fired from their car at another car that overtook them.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Drake Hawelu, one of three passengers in the victims' car, identified Nunies as the driver and Soliven as the gunman. He testified that no gestures or words were exchanged between either car when they passed Nunies' car, but that Nunies sped up and began tailing the victims' car.

Hawelu said the others in his car heard two bangs but did not realize the loud noises were gunshots until Nunies pulled next to them in the oncoming lane. "I saw the passenger (Soliven) waving a gun and told everyone 'get down, get down,' " he said.

According to testimony, a third shot was then fired, which struck the inside of the windshield of the victims' car.

Honolulu Police Det. Robert Kupukaa Jr., testified that Nunies said he knew the gun was in his car, but "denied seeing the gun when it was being fired."

Nunies is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and Soliven is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
