TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE: "The Job," 8:30 p.m., ABC. In the cluttered and complicated mind of McNeil (Denis Leary), anything is possible. This cop has a wife, a girlfriend and an obsession with a co-worker. But when actress Elizabeth Hurley files a complaint, he sees chances for a fresh involvement. Complications follow. For McNeil, they always seem to. Leary's show is a pleasant surprise. It's a comedy that sometimes looks like a movie and thinks like a play. The series returns in the fall.

"Live at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," MTV and "Reverb," HBO; both 5 p.m. Rock shows collide. On MTV, it's a concert by Staind; on HBO are concert segments from Green Day and Lucky Boys Confusion.

"James Dean," 9 p.m., TNT, and "The Triangle" 3 p.m., WTBS.

The two sister channels rerun films they made themselves. "James Dean" is richly crafted and offers a layered look at the movie star's brief life. "The Triangle" is silly.

"Soul Food," 10 p.m., Showtime. The movie "Soul Food" — a terrific surprise — was produced by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who also supervised the excellent music score. Now he's producing this reasonably well-made series.
