Maui accident victim identified

Advertiser Staff

WAILUKU, Maui — Police yesterday identified a woman killed in a three-car collision on Honoapi'ilani Highway as Macia Wilson, 52, of San Bruno, Calif.

Wilson was a front-seat passenger in a Lahaina-bound 2001 Chevrolet Malibu that stopped on the two-lane highway to make a left turn into Ukumehame Beach park just before noon Monday.

The car was hit from behind by a 2001 Dodge Neon driven by a 29-year-old woman from Ventura, Calif., and pushed into the oncoming lane, where it was broadsided by a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup driven by a 57-year-old Kihei man.

A California man riding in the back seat of the Malibu was critically injured and flown to the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu for treatment.

There have been 14 traffic deaths in Maui County this year, the same number as a year ago.
