CB Bancshares dividend rises

The board of directors of CB Bancshares Inc., parent company of City Bank, announced yesterday a cash dividend of 11 cents per common share for the third quarter.

The dividend represents a 10 percent increase over the second-quarter cash dividend. The dividend is payable Sept. 27 to stockholders of record as of Sept. 15. CB Bancshares, through its principal subsidiary City Bank, has $1.7 billion in assets and operates 21 branches on O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island.


Canada airline expands service

Air Canada yesterday announced it will expand its South Pacific network by introducing "same plane" Toronto-Honolulu-Melbourne service and by increasing capacity on its Vancouver-Honolulu-Sydney route effective Nov. 30.

The Montreal-based airline will operate three times weekly service from Toronto to Melbourne via Honolulu using 212-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft. It will increase capacity on daily Vancouver-Honolulu-Sydney service, replacing the current 212-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft with 284-seat Airbus A340.

"We are responding to new market growth opportunities in the South Pacific by increasing capacity from Vancouver to Sydney and expanding Honolulu as a strategic connecting hub for Air Canada's network," said Bill Bredt, vice president for international.
