Paintings stolen at Hale'iwa gallery

Thieves raided a Hale'iwa art gallery Wednesday night and stole four oil paintings worth an estimated $100,000, including one valued at $85,000, according to artist Roy Tabora.

Tabora said the thieves entered through the front door of the Tabora Studio Inc., 66-145 Kamehameha Highway, by breaking the glass with a brick at about 10:55 p.m.

They made off with one of his paintings and three by Gary Reed, the four most expensive in the gallery, Tabora said. Call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or the Tabora Studio at 637-7881.


Girl arrested in fight near school

Police in Wai'anae arrested a girl for fighting near NŒnŒkuli Elementary yesterday afternoon and booked her on suspicion of disorderly conduct.

The fight occurred about 2 p.m. Police had no immediate details, including the girl's age. School officials said they had no information.


Couple arrested in Kona drug raid

Big Island police made two arrests and found drugs in a raid Tuesday on an apartment in Kailua.

Acting on a search warrant, officers from the Kona vice section raided the apartment of Jason Ishii, 32, and Lorraine Angay, 37, at 6:15 a.m. Both were charged with first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. They were being held at the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $24,000 bail each.

Ishii and Angay were wanted on outstanding warrants for contempt, police said.


Chinatown bus stop scene of stabbing

Police were searching for a man who stabbed another man at a Chinatown bus stop early yesterday morning.

They said the 39-year-old was confronted at 12:30 a.m. at a bus stop at 100 N. Beretania St. He tried to defend himself with a broom, but was stabbed once in the back before the assailant ran away.

He was treated at the Queen's Medical Center and released.


Waipahu youth charged as adult

A 17-year-old Waipahu youth who was arrested in connection with a May home invasion robbery in Makakilo has been charged as an adult, police said.

A Family Court judge waived jurisdiction over James J. Bautista. He was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, kidnapping, second-degree theft, third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs and a drug paraphernalia offense. Bautista's bail was set at $60,000.

In June, police charged David Cassidy, 27, of Makakilo with possession of a prohibited weapon, second-degree theft, an ammunition offense, first-degree burglary, kidnapping and second-degree robbery. William Mara, 26, of Makakilo was charged with auto theft. Cassidy's bail was set at $100,000; Mara's at $15,000.

On May 29, two intruders forced their way into a 44-year-old woman's home when she answered the door. One choked her and demanded money. She broke free and ran to her bedroom. The intruders kicked in the door, forced her to open the safe, tied her up and stole her car.

Leeward O'ahu Crime Reduction Units spotted a car on Hakimo Road and arrested the driver.

Police checked a nearby vacant townhouse and found two people with the woman's property.


Police investigate motorcycle theft

Kona police are seeking the public's help in solving the theft of a motorcycle earlier this month in Kailua.

On Aug. 9, a 2000 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 was stolen from the parking lot of the Kona Pacific Condos, between Kuakini Highway and Malua Road. The motorcycle had a license number of "301 HNG" and was described as a custom model.

Wire mesh, tools stolen from home

Puna police are seeking information about the theft of 85 rolls of wire mesh and hand tools from a residence in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision sometime between June 6 and July 22.

Convicted felon sought by police

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man wanted on two Family Court contempt warrants and a felony contempt-of-court warrant.

Nelson Abiley, 24, also is wanted for questioning in connection with two indecent exposure cases that occurred June 21 at 98-310 Kamehameha Highway.

Abiley, also known as John John, has nine felony convictions for robbery, assault, burglary, auto theft, promoting prison contraband and escape, police said.

He frequents the Waipahu and 'Ewa Beach areas, police said, and should be considered dangerous. Abiley is 5 feet- 5, 200 pounds with a tan complexion and mustache and goatee. He has numerous tattoos, including "Mom" and a Hawaiian band on his right arm and "Dad" on his left arm.

Hilo man charged in purse snatchings

HILO, Hawai'i — A 40-year-old Hilo man was charged this week with nine crimes in connection with three recent purse-snatchings.

Edward J. Villanueva, who police said has no permanent address, is charged with two counts of robbery, four counts of theft and three counts of forgery.

He was being held at the Hilo police cellblock, unable to raise $9,500 bail.
