Barbara Wallace leaves KHNL

By Wayne Harada

Barbara Wallace has resigned from KHNL/KFVE, where she was a reporter-anchor, citing the need to spend time with her family.

Wallace had been on medical leave for three months. "I'm OK, not seriously ill, but I'm not ready to go back," said Wallace, who declined to reveal the nature of her illness. She said she eventually may get involved in short-term projects.

"Barbara has been a solid anchor in our news department from Day One, even arriving before we had our building set up on Sand Island Road," said John Fink, station general manager of Channels 8 and sister station 5, in a memo to staff. "The decision to leave came from the heart."

Wallace also handled special projects, from the JobLine feature to Toys for Tots promotions.

Fink said management "is truly empathetic and saddened by the loss of one our finest," but the door is not closed to her. "We hope to look at special projects with Barbara, and perhaps future employment down the road."
