Navy awards three Ford Island contracts

The Navy has awarded contracts of $325,000 each to three companies that will prepare development plans for Ford Island and outlying Navy properties. The companies were selected after a May conference where potential contractors presented preliminary proposals.

Fluor Hawai'i LLC, Ford Island Development Group LLC and Ford Island Realty Partners LLC will create comprehensive plans that include reuse of historic buildings, new training and administrative facilities. and housing for sailors. Proposals are due in December, and a Master Development Agreement with one of the developers is expected late next year.

Fluor Hawai'i is a wholly owned affiliate of Fluor Corp. of Aliso Viejo, Calif., with a team including EDAW Inc. of San Francisco, Dick Pacific Construction Co. Honolulu subsidiary, and Wimberly Allison Tong and Goo of Honolulu.

The Ford Island Development Group, headed by Sheldon Zane of Zane Development Group Inc., includes Architects Hawaii Ltd. and Spencer Architects Inc., both of Honolulu.

Ford Island Realty Partners is a joint venture between Industrial Realty Group of Torrance, Calif., and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Real Estate of New York. Its team includes Montgomery Watson Harza of Pasadena, Calif.; Hellmuth, Obata, and Kassebaum of St. Louis; and Kober, Hannsen, Mitchell Architects of Honolulu.

Goals of the development are to improve operational and administrative facilities and improve the quality of sailors' lives.
