NANAKULI — Three St. Louis quarterbacks combined for four touchdown passes as the Crusaders rolled over Nanakuli, 42-0, last night in a high school football preseason game.

Still, St. Louis coach Cal Lee wasn't that pleased. Neither was Nanakuli coach Al Beaver. But his reason was obvious in a game that resorted to the mercy rule with 2:58 left in the third quarter when the 35-point differential was attained.

Returning St. Louis quarterback Bobby George completed 12 of 20 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns for the defending Interscholastic League of Honolulu champions. He played only the first half, giving way to backup Chris Sokugawa and Andy Kubic, who each had a touchdown pass.

"I don't think he's pleased, and I don't think we're pleased," Lee said of George's performance. "He missed some open people. I don't think he's happy with his performance. That's the kind of competitor he is."

George nearly threw an interception, but linebacker Ikaika Asinsin dropped the ball in the second quarter.

Lee didn't blame George's performance on it being the first game of the season. "Maybe his timing was off."

At one stretch, George completed five consecutive passes, including a 48-yard touchdown pass to Jason Rivers in the first quarter. They also connected on a 6-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter that gave St. Louis a 21-0 halftime lead.

St. Louis scored on its first two possessions of the game. The Crusaders capped a 9-play, 57-yard opening drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by Prince Brown.

The Golden Hawks, who missed the O'ahu Interscholastic Association playoffs by one game last season, did not generate a drive.

"We need something to gauge ourselves," Beaver said. "A quality team like St. Louis is going to expose everything, and we got a lot of things to work on."
