Two community conferences

Advertiser Staff

Everyone is invited to the 2001 Hawai'i Governor's Conference on Volunteerism Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, sponsored by the governor's Office of State Volunteer Services.

Most of the conference will be held at the Hawai'i Convention Center. It will include more than 50 workshops, with presenters from across the nation, Japan and the Philippines. Workshops will cover topics ranging from cooking for the homeless to helping volunteers deal with stress, from being a docent to helping in a disaster.

Registration for the whole conference costs $225, or admission to events can be purchased individually.

Also, a disaster response fair will be presented free from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at the convention center. Agencies will have exhibits and give demonstrations of emergency procedures and rescue operations. Call 586-7200 or visit community.hei.com/svsconf for more information.
