Smart card firm heads to Hawai'i

IVI Smart Technologies, Inc., a San Jose, Calif., smart card company, will relocate its headquarters and product design group to Honolulu, the company said in a news release. The company is looking for 15,000 square feet of office space in Kaka'ako for what it hopes will eventually be 50 engineers plus support staff, said Keith Rollman, a company spokesman.

"We will be looking to fill the bulk of our engineering positions and support staff with local talent," said company chairman Terry Christensen.


Venture-capital forum slated

Pacific Business Forums will conduct its monthly forum Friday on the topic of venture capital.

David Blumberg, managing partner of Blumberg Capital of San Francisco, will address how venture capitalists and high-tech entrepreneurs are approaching a tougher venture economy.

The forum will be held 7 to 9 a.m. at the Plaza Club in Pioneer Plaza, 900 Fort St. Mall, 21st floor. $40 advance; $45 at the door. Registration is available online. More information is available by calling 536-8911.
