Didgets
Let your fingers do the walking, comfortably

There's such a thing as too much miniaturization. Take cell phones — or, more precisely, their keypads. Poking out phone numbers is OK, but you go nuts trying to sustain this action through e-mailing or Web-surfing functions offered on fancier models.

Motorola's folding iBoard keyboards fit Nextel phone models i50sx and i85s. The foldout keyboards will be available in Hawai'i later this month.
To solve this problem, yet another peripheral has been invented: Motorola's folding iBoard keyboards, similar to the ones marketed for Palm organizers but downsized a bit to cradle a Nextel phone. The keyboards fit only two models, though: the i50sx and the i85s (the current retail deals price them at $99.99 and $169.99, respectively). The keyboards will be available in Hawai'i late this month; call 840-4800 for information.

The keyboard itself, which starts palm-size and then snaps open to nearly full keyboard dimensions, costs $99.95. Whether that's worth it to you depends on things such as your pique over poking at small buttons, your comparative typing skills, your desire to send e-mail or write (there's a word processor built into the phone) in relative comfort from your hard plastic chair in the airport lobby.

Your index finger, your decision.
