A Doo Wop Hop an event assembling five groups from the doo wop era, spanning the 1950s and '60s will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Blaisdell Arena.
The performers:
- The Platters, creators of a string of best sellers, including "Only You," "The Great Pretender," "My Prayer," "(You've Got) The Magic Touch," "I'm Sorry," "Twilight Time" and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes."
- The Cadillacs, whose hits include "Gloria" and "Speedo."
- The Penguins, featuring Cleve Duncan, of "Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine)" fame.
- The Marcels, who popularized "Blue Moon" and "Heartaches."
- The Toys, whose signature song was "A Lover's Concerto."
Tom Moffatt, who started producing rock and pop shows as part of his deejaying stint in the late 1950s, will team up with his former employer, Oldies Radio 107.9 (KGMZ-FM) to present the nostalgia event.
For those really into strolling down memory lane, it's OK to wear drapes and saddle shoes, crinolines and poodle skirts. There will be two dance floors.
The Toys, the only female act among the roster, will do a tribute to girl groups of the doo wop era.
Tickets: $35 for lower-level, $25 for upper-level seats; on sale tomorrow at the Blaisdell box office and Ticket Plus outlets. Reservations: www.ticketplus.com or 526-4400.
