Tomorrow

GARY STREHL, executive chef of Loews L'Enfant Hotel, Washington, D.C. will be the guest chef at Michel's on the Beach at the Colony Surf. The former chef of the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and one of the original Hawaii Regional Cuisine chefs reunites with former assistant Hardy Kintscher, now executive chef of Michel's. Strehl will prepare a four-course dinner; $55 per person plus tax and tip. 923-6552.

Friday

HAWAII REGIONAL CUISINE DINNER featuring past and present chefs of the Prince hotel group, 6:30 p. m. at the Prince Court Restaurant, Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki. Executive chef Goran Streng will host former Prince Waikiki executive chef Gary Strehl, now with Loews L'Enfant Hotel, Washington D.C.; former Maui Prince Hotel executive chef Roger Dikon now with PGA National Resort and Spa, Palm Springs, Calif.; present Maui Prince executive chef Greg Gaspar and Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel executive chef Corey Waite. The chefs will feature a special four-course menu featuring locally grown products paired with wines. $75 per person. 956-1111 ext. 68.

Saturday

MAUI ONION EATING CONTEST, 12:30 p.m. at Market City Shopping Center. Part of Maui Family Fun Day festivities, adults and youths up to 12 years old with parent's consent can enter the competition to eat the most Maui onions (by weight) in 60 seconds. Adult winner will be awarded a $200 Market City gift certificate and youth winner gets a $100 gift certificate. Enter by calling Cheryl at 524-6441 or just show up.

BEER IS BETTER! Chef Elmer Guzman of Sam Choy's Diamond Head Restaurant and brewmaster Dave Campbell of Sam Choy's Breakfast Lunch and Crab restaurant demonstrate home brewing and cooking with beer. Class at Sam Choy's Diamond Head, sponsored by Kapi'olani Community College. Fee: $30. 734-9211.

GALA FOOD BANK HEADDRESS BALL, a food-tasting extravaganza that starts at 5 p.m. at the Hilton Waikoloa Village grand ballroom on the Big Island. This Carmen Miranda-inspired event is a benefit for the Hawaii Island Food Bank. Chefs Peter Merriman, Glenn Alos, James Cassidy, Willie Pirngruber, Ryan Vargas, Corey Waite, David Brown will donate their talents; Big Island farmers and food purveyors donate their products. BREWS, BLUES AND BBQ, a kick-off celebration of foods from the South paired with Samuel Adams Octoberfest Draft beer, 5:30 p.m. at Dixie Grill, 404 Ward Ave.; $30 per person. 596-8359.
