Former Amfac workers to share $300,000

Advertiser Staff

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — The ILWU yesterday started the process of distributing $300,000 to 355 former workers at Amfac's sugar plantations on Kaua'i.

The money was paid into bargaining unit accounts, and because those units are now defunct, it is being returned to members employed by Amfac as of last Sept. 15, when the company announced it was closing the plantations.

Shares are being calculated according to years of service with Amfac as ILWU members.

Union officials met with members yesterday in Kekaha, the site of the former Kekaha Sugar Co. They will meet from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the ILWU Hall on Hardy Street in Lihu'e.

Union members who could not attend these sessions can sign up for disbursements from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the ILWU hall.
