Weatherman Guy Hagi to join KGMB Channel 9

Former KHNL Channel 8 morning news weather anchor Guy Hagi has taken a position as principal weather broadcaster with KGMB Channel 9 News, the CBS affiliate announced yesterday.

Hagi, who left NBC affiliate KHNL in early July when his contract expired, replaces Ku'ualoha Taylor, who left KGMB on Aug. 17 for a position at a San Diego CBS affiliate. On KGMB, Hagi will be teamed with his wife, Kim Gennaula, who co-anchors the station's weekday 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. news broadcasts. Hagi will also do weather on KGMB's 6 p.m. weekday broadcast.

Gennaula's first on-air position at the station in 1992 was as a weather broadcaster. Hagi will make his KGMB debut Sept. 11.

"Guy is a proven weather broadcaster with six years of experience and a proven audience," said KGMB news director Bob Loy.

Hagi's hiring comes on the heels of recent KGMB talent departures, including that of Taylor, weekend sports anchor Ross Shimabuku and weekend weather anchor Paul Drewes. Drewes declined to re-up with KGMB earlier this month to replace Hagi at KHNL.
