Arakawa venue hearing today

Advertiser Staff

A hearing will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in Circuit Court on a request by former Honolulu police officer Clyde Arakawa to have his trial on manslaughter charges moved.

Attorneys for Arakawa say the negative publicity generated by media coverage will prevent him from receiving a fair trial on O'ahu.

Prosecutors say Arakawa was drunk when his 1993 Thunderbird collided with a 2000 Honda Civic driven by 19-year-old Dana Ambrose Oct. 7 at the intersection of Pali Highway and School Street. Arakawa's lawyers say Ambrose was speeding and ran a red light.

Arakawa, 49, is scheduled to go to trial next month.
