Cliff diving world tour to make stop on Maui

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Tour Final will be tomorrow on Lana'i.

The competition begins at 1:45 p.m. at the 82-foot cliff face of Kaunolu.

Ten divers will be competing for the top prize of $12,000 from the $45,000 purse.

The tour is recognized as the first world circuit of cliff diving.

Included in the field for the final stop on the three-stop tour is Dustin Weber, of San Diego, who captured the opening event in Porto Venere, Italy, on May 26.

Orlando Duque of South America won the second stop, June 30 in Athens, Greece, and will also be competing in Lana'i.


BIATHLON

• Swim and run: The Sand and Surf Biathlon Ocean Swim and Run will be Sept. 16 beginning at 7 a.m. at the Kailua Beach Pavilion.

The race will consist of a one-mile ocean swim followed by a five-mile beach run.

There will also be just a swim portion and a running portion for children and adults.

Cost is $20 for adults, $15 for children, with adult teams costing $40 and children's teams $30.

BOATING CLASS

• Coast Guard offers instruction: The Flotilla 20, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, will hold a boating skills and seamanship class at McKinley High School on Monday and Wednesday evenings from Sept. 5-Oct. 29.

The classes will run from 6:30 -8:30 and are free. There is a textbook and workbook available for $35.

CANOE RACE

• Great Kahakaloa Challenge: The Great Kahakaloa Challenge Long Distance Outrigger Canoe Race will be Sunday beginning at Maui's Kahului Harbor.
