Advertiser Staff

Punahou School graduates Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong captured their second consecutive Association of Volleyball Professionals title yesterday in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Metzger and Wong, seeded fifth, beat Eric Fonoimoana and Rob Heidger, 21-17, 18-21, 15-10, in a 65-minute match to win the Manhattan Beach Open.

Metzger and Wong won the AVP title in Santa Barbara, Calif., last week. The duo has won three times this season, and Metzger has four overall titles to his credit.

For winning in Manhattan Beach, Metzger and Wong will share $17,400.

In the women's portion, Barbara Fontana and Elaine Youngs defeated Lisa Arce and Holly McPeak, 21-17, 21-19, for the championship. It is the 20th pro beach title for Fontana.

Metzger and Wong will next compete in the Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia, beginning Wednesday.
