Man beaten with baseball bat

Police arrested two Waialua men yesterday after they allegedly beat another man with a baseball bat, believing he was throwing rocks at their home.

According to police, the assailants heard rocks hitting their house at 8:30 last night. They went outside, saw the 31-year-old man, chased him and struck him with a baseball bat.

The man suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

The two men were arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Wheelchair victim of truck identified

A 46-year-old Kailua man who died Saturday after being hit by a pickup truck on Thursday has been identified as Peter E. Young.

Young, who was in a wheelchair, was crossing Kihapai Place in a crosswalk about 30 feet west of

Hahani Street in Kailua when he was struck by the truck, driven by a 61-year-old Kailua man, police said.

Body found off Tantalus identified

A 54-year-old Honolulu woman whose body was found Monday afternoon in a ravine off Tantalus Drive has been identified as Ginger M. Bignall.

The medical examiner has not identified the cause of death, but said it did not appear to be a homicide.

Bignall was last seen by her landlord at her Pensacola Street home around noon Aug. 20.

Late that night, residents in the 4000 block of Tantalus Drive said they found the woman's car parked in the roadway with its lights on, passenger door open and keys in the ignition. They reported having seen the car about 6:30 that evening, with a woman who matched Bignall's description.

Police towed the car away as a traffic hazard.

Bignall was not reported missing until Sunday afternoon, police said. Yesterday morning officers from the specialized services division and the police canine unit searched the area where her car was found.

A resident told searchers that an unknown man had reported hearing a woman call for help in the area last Thursday. But the man did not report the incident until yesterday.

With help from the Honolulu Fire Department, police and a rescue crew rappelled into a ravine below the 4000 block of Tantalus Drive, where they found the body.
