Organ concert to honor queen

The Fourth Annual Queen Lili'uokalani Organ Concert, at 4 p.m. Sept. 2 in the sanctuary of Kawaiaha'o Church, will pay tribute to Hawai'i's last reigning monarch.

The program will feature choral compositions of the queen, who was a former organist at Kawaiaha'o, as well as traditional classical organ pieces.

Artists will include Ed Kurtz, organist; Kawaiolaonapukanileo Vocal Ensemble, directed by Nola A. Nahulu; Malia Ka'ai, soprano; and Puanani Higgins, narrator.

Hispanic festival set for Oct. 20

The Hawaii Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will present the eighth annual Hispanic Heritage Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at Kapi'olani Park, near the bandstand.

The event will include craft and product booths, food stations, live entertainment and cultural displays. Information: 941-5216 or 371-3084.


'Noche Tropical' is Latin tribute

"Noche Tropical," assembling a variety of Latin and salsa acts, will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight Sept. 8 at the United Puerto Rican Association of Hawaii social hall, at 1249 N. School St.

The event features dance music by Los Carinosos, Latin Gentlemen, Boricua Conjunto Musical featuring Julita de Puerto Rico and Augie Rey, Orquesta SalsAloha and more.

Latin deejay sounds will be provided by Latin Lady Margarita and DJ Rod. Kaleo O Kalani, featuring Rachel Asevido, will be special guests.

The evening is a prelude to the Hawaii Puerto Rican Centennial Aloha Tour to Puerto Rico.
