Indiana extradition case to continue

An extradition hearing in an Indiana court for a man accused of killing a 13-year-old O'ahu girl in 1975 was continued yesterday until Sept. 14.

Delmar Edmonds, 46, was indicted on one count each of murder and attempted murder and is being held in an Indianapolis jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

A warrant issued for Edmonds' arrest last month charges him with the murder of Dawn "Dede" Bustamante.

Edmonds was a Marine stationed at a the base in Kane'ohe at the time Bustamante was killed. Bustamante was shot in the head as she attempted to flee from a man who had kidnapped and assaulted her and a friend, also 13. The friend escaped.

A break in the case came after 25 years when a man who served with Edmonds in the Marine Corps came forward and told authorities that Edmonds had asked him and other Marines to vouch for Edmonds' alibi on the night of Bustamante's death.
