Kapolei Regional Park getting more parking

Advertiser Staff

A temporary parking lot for soccer teams using Kapolei Regional Park is closer to completion, with Grace Pacific Corp. donating more than 1,000 tons of material to help in its construction.

Crews brought in truckloads of a reusable material known as coplane all day yesterday and poured it on a two-acre parcel makai of the new state library.

The Campbell Estate owns the land and is allowing the city to use it for parking.

The park is heavily used by youth soccer teams in the afternoons and on Saturdays. But with only 53 parking stalls in the existing lot, some families decided to drop out of the league rather than deal with the parking shortage.

To help resolve the problem, the city decided to add parking spaces and last week crews cleared the site of brush and debris.

The new lot will accommodate at least 100 cars.

The soccer season opens Saturday.
