The Left Lane
'Olelo hopes you'll pass on the reruns

Kini Kahauolopua, left, and Tiffany Naughton cook up local-style delicacies on the TV show "Looks Good."

Ann Marie Kirk

Ann Marie Kirk is hoping a few more viewers will click past the "Friends" reruns at 9 p.m. and find her state Department of Education Teleschool-produced "Eazy Kine" TV-magazine show and "Looks Good" cooking series on Channel 56. Some have.

She got a call from a guy after the first "Looks Good" aired, and one of the "Eazy Kine" experts was recognized at the airport. Ah, the pleasures of 'Olelo celebrity.

(While the Teleschool is not an 'Olelo community TV project, its educational TV program runs on 'Olelo's Channel 56.)

The two shows alternate at the 9 p.m. weeknight time slot, plus "Eazy Kine" airs at 2 p.m. weekdays and 11:30 a.m. Saturdays. "Looks Good" repeats at 2:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. Saturdays. While the shows are a little more than halfway into their seven-show season, in October the whole series of both will be rebroadcast.

Take THAT, Chandler.

Catering to the well-heeled druggie

The reception for the lavish resort lacked only one thing: cocktails. This was a party to celebrate a new drug and alcohol rehabilitation center billed as the most luxurious of its kind. About 150 guests came to schmooze on its expansive lawn, overlooking the ocean.

"This is the 'who's who' of the addiction community here today," said owner, Chris Prentiss, a real estate developer and author of inspirational books. The new facility, Passages, is slated to open tomorrow. This remodeled $3.8 million 12-bedroom property is in Malibu, Calif., a hub for high-end drug treatment centers, one of which has been in the news since actor Robert Downey Jr., Ben Affleck and Paula Poundstone checked in.

Organo-veggie and mostly upscale

Think Martha Stewart crossed with Mother Jones. Think Vegetarian Times with a little Good Housekeeping thrown in.

Organic Style magazine makes its debut with a September/October issue, and even manages to highlight Hawaiian Vintage Chocolate Co. to win our Birkenstock-loving hearts. And its Web site (www.organicstyle.com) supplements with material that didn't make it into the pages, such as a tasters' panel chart for the feature on organic chocolate.

Its cover price is $3.50, and Rodale Inc., which also publishes Men's Health and Prevention magazines, guarantees an initial circulation of 400,000.

Do how does it read? A little New Age-y, with features such as "The Art of Living in Balance" (subtitled: "How to find calm amid the chaos"), but solid. And not a single recipe in the food section of this issue mentions tofu.
