California show to feature Hawai'i fashions

TUBE TALK: Emme Tomimbang's Hawaiian fashions, marketed under the label Island Moments by Emme in a partnership with Iolani Sportswear, will get a boost on San Francisco's "Evening Magazine" show on Wednesday via KPIX, the Bay Area's CBS affiliate. Show co-host Malou Nubla was on hand at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental, when Tomimbang emceed a mini-fashion show of her clothing line. The S.F. show also is helping to promote a "Sounds of Hawai'i" concert at Great America, featuring Na Leo Pilimehana, Ten Feet, Kalapana and Col—n, with expatriate Jesse Sapolu hosting ...

That Local Divas TV special, aired earlier this year, will be re-telecast from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday (Labor Day) on KHON-2. In it, a plea is made to support the Loyal Garner medical fund, which is still soliciting dollars to help the Lady of Love in her battle against cancer...

Joann Shinn joins the KHNL-8 reportorial staff in September. She was one of 120 candidates for the slot. She comes from Washington state, with credentials as a producer, weather and news person ... and is said to be a promising star for Channel 8's softball team, too ...

Tom Selleck plays the 'ukulele in "A Thousand Clowns."

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Christine Morgan of Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties took in "A Thousand Clowns," starring Tom Selleck, during a New York visit, thoroughly enjoying Selleck's performance and his 'ukulele-strumming prowess. "At curtain call, there was a standing ovation, and I gave the shaka," said Morgan. After the performance, she joined a crowd at the stage door to extend her congrats. "He mentioned seeing me give the shaka," said Morgan. Selleck's mom and sister also were in the audience ...

Game show host J.D. Roth ("SexWars," a cable TV program) was a guest of Janice and Tom Fairbanks' Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono last weekend; he was on a Maui vacation, but had hosting chores for a game show for kids at the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center ...

And Kelly Slater, six-time world surfing champ, guitarist and actor, took time off from promoting his latest Disney feature to enjoy dinner at Kimo's in Lahaina with Jack Starr, the restaurant's marketing manager and himself a surfing guru ...

Sarah Warner, who represented Oregon in the Miss Teen USA pageant, won the Miss Congeniality title. Although she didn't make it to the Top 10, she clearly has adopted local ways, flashing a shaka sign on the recent CBS-TV telecast, which should help when she enrolls at Hawai'i Pacific University this fall, where she will be a member of the HPU dance team ...

RANDOM NOTES: Randy Schoch, CEO of Desert Island Restaurants, has been in town from Scottsdale, Ariz., this week to be host at a party honoring Mrs. Hawaii Sydney Fernandez Fasi, whose parents, Kane and Linda (he was the late honcho of E.K. Fernandez Shows), have been his longtime friends. He was happy to walk into his Ruth's Chris Steak House in Restaurant Row to find manager Lisa Redman still there, since she was one of the "Lucky 13" selected randomly to disappear at one of David Copperfield's shows ...

Now it can be told: The magician stayed at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel and frequented Hoku's restaurant ... but since has disappeared ...

John Cruz serenaded guests at Cafe du Monde (formerly Cascada) at the Royal Garden at Waikiki Hotel a few nights back. Cruz and other local performers are being signed on ...
