Businesses dogged by Sept. 11 Internet rumors

By Linda Sandler
Bloomberg News

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Here are the latest hot tips from cyberspace:

Cadbury Schweppes Plc's Snapple Beverage Group is not owned by Osama bin Laden.

Dunkin' Donuts Inc. Arab-American employees did not celebrate the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Ryder System Inc. trucks were not stolen to be used for terrorist purposes.

These are the true versions of false Internet and e-mail reports that these and other companies have had to spend time and money denying since the Sept. 11 attacks. Although hoaxes and untrue reports have always dogged businesses, the Sept. 11 attacks and the speed at which the Internet transmits information have spawned a particularly virulent version.
