Doggie goes Hawaiian
Pet boutiques are cropping up all over the Islands with gifts galore. New on the scene for fashion-forward pooches is a line of aloha attire The doggie mu'umu'u, in a retro aloha print, features a flounce sleeve, ruffled hem and bow at the back. The matching aloha shirt is finished with coconut buttons. Fastenings are easy Velcro, but a human valet is still a necessary accoutrement.
The line is exclusive to Hawaii Doggie Bakery at Ward Warehouse. Aloha shirts are $25 to $27; mu'umu'u $27 to $29.

Patriotism lives on
Being dead for more than two decades hasn't kept John Wayne out of the patriotism business. A recording made of the late "Duke" narrating patriotic essays to a musical accompaniment was recently re-released on compact disc.
On "John Wayne: America, Why I Love Her," Wayne narrates cuts including "America, Why I Love Her," "Face the Flag" and "Taps," all written by John Mitchum, the brother of actor Robert Mitchum.
John Mitchum and actor Forrest Tucker persuaded Wayne to record the material following an afternoon golf game. It was released in 1973, toward the end of the Vietnam War. Wayne died of cancer in June 1979.
