Repairs to slow 'Ewa traffic

'Ewa motorists heading makai on Fort Weaver Road can expect delays today as Board of Water Supply crews repair a ruptured 16-inch water main.

Repair work since 8 p.m. yesterday has closed both makai-bound lanes near the intersection with Renton Road. A police officer is directing traffic around the work site.

The main, which supplies nonpotable irrigation water for roadside landscaping and golf courses in the 'Ewa area, ruptured late Sunday night.

Water board spokeswoman Denise DeCosta said crews should have the work done by afternoon rush hour.

No drinking water customers are affected, DeCosta said.

Sewage enters Kalihi Stream

A clogged sewer line at Kuhio Park Terrace in Kalihi caused thousands of gallons of sewage to spill into Kalihi Stream yesterday.

The spill was reported at 7:30 a.m. at 1485 Linapuni St. by a contractor doing work on a manhole. The contractor said someone trespassed onto the work site and threw a large rock into the manhole, causing the line to be blocked.

City crews were attempting to clear the blockage late yesterday afternoon.
