The Seariders' girls volleyball team, however, had no such problem. They started out 3-0 and kept on winning, all the way to the O'ahu Interscholastic Association West Division championship.
Wai'anae coach Rae Fabrao, left, was named Coach of the Year, and Briana Marinas was voted Player of the Year.
For their part in Wai'anae's perfect (10-0) West season, 5-foot-9 senior outside hitter Briana Marinas was named OIA West Player of the Year and coach Rae Fabrao was named Coach of the Year.
In one week, Marinas had six kills and three aces to help the Seariders defeat Mililani, then had 14 kills in a victory over Radford and eight kills in a win over Waialua.
Marinas is joined on the first team by senior teammate Kristin Kekahuna (5-9), Pearl City juniors Chalice Kaapuni (5-10) and Jillan Soria (5-1), Pearl City senior Kelli Yuen (5-5), Leilehua senior Heidi Garcia (5-7) and Nanakuli junior Lehua Yap (5-7).
