Tonight's Must-See

"A Charlie Brown Christmas," 7 p.m., ABC. The network has changed this year, but the rest remains same. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" ranks alongside the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" as a truly great TV cartoon. This greatness came because the show was in a rush to be ready for Christmas 1965 and the original network (CBS) didn't have time to interfere. "Peanuts" creator Charles Schulz and animator Bill Melendez were on their own. They promptly broke all TV traditions. The show includes a jazz score (by Vince Guaraldi), kids' voices, a Bible passage and — in the middle of Christmas selling season — some anti-materialism. In its first year on ABC, it gets the star treatment.

Of note

"Survivor: Africa," 7 p.m., CBS. After pausing for a recap, the show booms ahead with the nine people who will still vote in the finale, even if ousted. Now that the two tribes have merged, people are starting to oust the toughest threats.

"Friends," 7 p.m., NBC. Monica buys expensive boots, which hurt her feet. In other twists, guest stars include Marla Sokoloff (as Joey's pregnant sister) and Sting's wife, Trudie Styler (as herself).

"Popstars 2," 7 p.m., WB (seen on KFVE). Last week, six people learned individually that they're in the pop group. Tonight, they move to Los Angeles and learn who else made it.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan) is in charge for the night. He soon faces a murder case that may involve the daughter of his boss, Capt. Brass.

"Will & Grace," 8 p.m., NBC. There are complications at the gym where Jack is trying to launch a catch phrase and Will spots someone familiar.
