East wins Goodwill football Classic

Inoke Funaki of Kahuku High School completed 3 of 5 passes for 105 yards and one touchdown, and rushed five times for 44 yards to lead the East All-Stars to a 27-19 victory over the West in the Hawai'i Union Builders Goodwill Classic last night.

An Aloha Stadium crowd of 2,510 also watched Castle's Nolan Miranda kick field goals of 37 and 47 yards in the final 30 seconds of the first half to give the East a 20-13 led at intermission.

Punahou quarterback Sean Fitzsimmons completed 7 of 12 passes for 106 yards and one touchdown to led the West.

St. Louis' Ross Dickerson caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Funaki with 9:08 remaining in the third quarter to give the East a 27-13 lead. 'Aiea's Reuben Medeiros caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Fitzsimmons with 15 seconds left in the game to make it 27-19. But the extra point failed and the East recovered the ensuing onside kick.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

• Tickets on sale Monday: Season tickets for the upcoming University of Hawai'i men's volleyball season go on sale Monday.

The public may purchase tickets at the Stan Sheriff Center or by calling 944-2697.

The phone sales operate from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday. Thereafter, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ticket prices are as follows: $155 lower level (plus an additional $20 premium seat donation per ticket); $115 upper level, reserved; $100 ages 65-older; $70 students (ages 4 through high school and UH students).

The Warriors open the season at home Jan. 8 against Loyola (Ill.)


AWARDS

• November sports persons named: Christal Cuadra, Maryknoll High School cross country star, and Nick Rolovich, University of Hawai'i football quarterback, were named outstanding female and male sports persons of the month for November by the Hawai'i Sports Person of the Month Committee.

The awards recognize outstanding sports achievements during November.

Cuadra won the girls state cross country championship, capping an outstanding and undefeated season.

Rolovich guided the UH Warriors to victories over three opponents during the month, and twice accumulated 500 or more passing yards.

They will be recognized at Monday's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.
