A representative from Paul Louie & Associates will discuss plans to build a swimming pool at Lanakila District Park at the neighborhood board meeting for Liliha, Alewa, Pu'unui and Kamehameha Heights, 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Ma'ema'e Elementary School cafeteria.

The board also will try to fill four vacant seats. Current board members serve until May 2003.

Ads promote gay rights

City buses this month will be carrying placards that read "All You Need Is Love to Support Equality and Justice for All" to promote civil unions and civil justice.

Mililani eases renovation rule

The Mililani Town Association will suspend all required design application and architectural fees for the first six months of next year to help stimulate the local economy.

The board of the community association, which represents about 13,750 homes in Mililani, approved the action last month.

A resident normally is required to apply for a permit before making alterations to the exterior of a home. Fees for home improvements range from $10 to $150, said member relations manager Peter Iszard.

"The board is hopeful that their action will encourage homeowners to take advantage of lowered bank mortgage and interest rates and have the work done, thus creating jobs for local contractors," MTA said in a press release.

Mililani homeowners still must submit applications and design plans to the MTA design committee, but processing fees will be waived until June 30, 2002.

Work to close H-1 lane today

A westbound lane on the H-1 Freeway will be closed today between the Pearl City and Waikele off-ramps from 5:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for replacement of pavement markers.

The state Department of Transportation advises motorists heading to the H-2 Freeway or the Waipahu off-ramp to enter the far right lane before the construction zone, which affects the third lane from the center median, or to use an alternate route.
