At the Honolulu Academy of Art, first Sunday each month is free

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

Thanks to the Honolulu Academy of Arts, your family can take a free arts excursion every first Sunday of the month. "We don't want anyone to be unable to come here because they can't afford it," said academy spokesman Charlie Aldinger. "We want everyone to be able to enjoy our collections."

The new program is in addition to the academy's ongoing Free First Wednesday program. Also beginning this month is Teachers Free, in which kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers at Hawai'i public and private schools will be admitted free daily except Mondays and holidays. Both new programs are in honor of the academy's 75th anniversary next year and will be offered through December 2002. Information: 532-8700.
