Celebrations

Iola and Arthur Akana of Honolulu celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party given by their son, Kalani Akana, Oct. 2 at The Willows. The Akanas were married Oct. 2, 1950, in Honolulu, and they have two sons, Kalani and Lang. Arthur Akana is a bartender at a hotel. Iola is a hostess at a hotel.

Placida and Justino Ganir of Kailua-Kona celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a dinner given by their seven children and their families Aug. 19 at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. The Ganirs were married Sept. 23, 1941, in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. They have 10 children — Jose, Pacita Batangan, Consuelo De Jesus, Orlando, Peter, Bernardino, Linda Saplan, Marcelo, Loreto and Gina Ganir-Gray — 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The Ganirs are retired.
